Dear all, Qatar Airways stated only that it had received approval from Lebanese authorities to operate the flights. Anyway, israeli aircraft was advised about the timetable and, honestly, even though it's very humiliating such situation, i do think they get their approval before Qatar flight took off from Doha.
Now just let's hope the situation will get back at normality asap. About the boycott israeli products, well personally i don't like to work AGAINST but PRO something. But this is just my humble opinion. Ciao from Italy and take care lebanese, i wish to reach Beirut soon :)
Why don't we embargo Israeli products and see how they like a little bit of their own medicine? (I can hear it now though: oh you mean give up on this product and that product and the other product, which I bet you didn't know was Israeli ... to be honest, I would be happy living by candle-light and bread and water if it was to prove ffective!)
Many of us here began this way back with US products Sam ie ) pre Iraq . and we have continued . One gets very skilled at knowing all their stuff etc .Israel has little here but what small amount there is i refuse to buy .Fairtrade products are about the best and they have the double reward of being a gesture against globalization and we know who runs that show dont we ? Ok Sam dinner by candlelight at your place or mine lol Would love it ... Will bring my Beirut olives and sweet pistachios

I hate to break this to you, but Qatar has solid relations with Israel and that's how they got away with flying to Beirut. They didn't "defy" the illegal blockade.
I'm waiting for our own Jazeera Airways to resume flights from Kuwait to Beirut and I'll be there faster than you can say "FUCK YOU OHLMERT!!"
is true Qatar is one of few arab countries that have trade relations with israel (the other that recognize israel are egypt and jordan), but is also true that the blockade is illegal and that Qatar showed to other countries that we cannot stay here waiting the silly decision of israelis ... so the hope is that more airlines will follow the qatar example
regarding the boycott of israel products there is a quite easy way to find out israeli made (or at least packeged products) the bar code that starts with 729 digits. is a way that of course works only with packaged products and is not applicable to israeli products packaged in other countries, but could be a start, so i'm not agree with the italian guy (i'm italian too even if my family roots are from lebanon) that wants to be pro something instead of against something ... too much rethoric sir ... also i want to add another aspect to think about. during the 34 days of war seems that israelis electronic war tools and electronic countermeasures failed miserably. the main italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera published an article about the fact that all comunications systems, interception systems and automatic systems were not able to work as expected and this is becoming a big problem because also the us army is using the same systems and because the technology based israeli economy is loosing it's reputation as provider of security solutions for both the civilian and military customers
Thank you Emil for your input . Its true what you say and may i add that there are reasons as to why Egypt and Jordan have their relations Finance ...simple as that . Not just through trade but annual payments to stay in line ......paid by you know who .
Interesting that Syria and Iran who have no such hand outs are viewed as evil . Odd to think that being independant = such . The tip re the bar code is good . Clearly no fruit or veg from there as well We do have to have all labelled as to land of origin in our stores so that part is easy .

I said, that was my humble opinion to work pro-, instead against- stg/sne. Honestly mine it's not rethoric, but boycott seems to me like acting by revenge. About Corriere della Sera article, i read it but generally speaking i don't believe 100% , which seem more obvious consideration of a journalist rather than "exceptional" secrets found out by a secret agent: plus, i didn't read nothing technical...so i took it as a "pour parler". Personally i think that per definition a Security System has to be corruptable, actually none owns a 100% attack-proof one. Anyway Qatar gave a good example about the concrete possibility to reach successfully Rafiq Hariri Airport, so i hope all the other companies will come back soon to Beirut, hopefully at convenient price and ther most favourable condition! this will really help lebanese (and leb-enthusiastic :)) Ciao |
