This process of de-branching [is there another word for it?] trees usually takes place just before the major storms of winter... It keeps trees alive, the forests clean and fire-retardant.

Oh and the branches are used to make coal, so in a way, it's free lumber with positive environmental impact!

Today however, the dude was just clearing some branches to reveal more of the Janna facia before the prime wedding season.
