Around a month a go, I started receiving SPAM e-mails in my Wunbox account inbox from random Gmail accounts.
At first I thought it would resolve itself (Gmail being the almighty Google), but what started as a few Gmail SPAM emails a day turned into a a barrage of SPAM, with around 100 SPAM messages from random Gmail email accounts landing in my Wunbox inbox every day.
Seeing as I have my own email server, I figured I'd reconfigure it to block all emails being sent from the IPs of the Gmail accounts in question... only to remember halfway through, that Gmail masks the IPs of its users when sending emails. That explains why SpamAssassin (running on my server) has so far failed at blocking these SPAM messages.
My only remaining option is to blacklist ALL Gmail accounts...
Back in the early 2000s, Hotmail was The SPAMMERS haven, with most SPAM emanating from random Hotmail accounts.
Mark my words if this Gmail problem is not resolved, 2009 will be remembered as the year Gmail surpassed Hotmail as the biggest generator of SPAM on the Internet.
Here's hoping to a quick solution before Google loses its halo.
