May I ask a simplistic and naive question? If the majority in the middle east so hates the USA, why are you looking to us to reign in Israel or solve any of the problems there? As an american who had the PRIVILEDGE to live with a lebanese between 1981 and 1986 (my favorite word was, "why?", his was "halas!". I did my reading and studying. I saw pictures of a beautiful country, before the civil war, and then have followed it afterwards.
Do people there know and realize that in a DEMOCRACY, (which you have), we all do not agree with George W. Bush in any and/or all aspects of his decisions. That's what a democracy is all about.
While most in the USA will hear slurs and act accordingly, there are actually some Americans who have read a book or two and know history.
Still, my question is, if most in the world hate us so, why do they always look to us for answers? Don't you think we'd like to stay out of it? But, wasn't that everyone's mistake back in '77 and beyond, while Lebanon bled?"
Cool action. I may not seem important, but I think it may give those kids a sense of not being forgotten by the world. Tell them our help is on the move!
...I just saw Gillerman speak in the UN. If I didn't know better I would have been enchanted by his warm words of peace. I don't know if you know the Lord of the Rings but I think Saruman would have been impressed...
Just curious - what does "internally displaced" mean? Were their families killed, were they orphans before the war or have they been relocated away from their families in order to remain safe?
Sorry to be stupid about it - just wondering what it means. Thanks.
IDP = Internally Displaced Person = a person displaced from their home, but still within it's international borders. One can not be considered a "refugee" until they actually cross an international border into a neighboring country. In other words, they are Lebaneese refugees WITHIN Lebanon but we can't call them refugees because they're still IN Lebanon. Make sense?
