Atleast there is some unity in Beirut...the Armenians are no longer separated into Orthodox and Catholic...LOL
i have a small objection regarding the name of the first one, it is not harrir-kennan law,
anyway the second one is better for sure
Anonymous, the 2000 election law was designed by Ghazi Kenaan to suit Rafik Hariri, hence the name.
Nadim, the original 1960 law had medawwar with Ashrafiyye, Saifi and Rmeil, meaning that Christians were able to elect 8 seats. Currently under the 2009 law, they will only elect 6; 5 in Beirut I and 1 in Beirut II (I think it's been agreed upon that the second Armenian seat will be for Hariri). Demographically speaking, Christians, that account for 35-40% of the voters in Beirut should be allowed to choose 7 or 8 MPs, but 6 is better than zero. |
