As if the war this summer wasn't enough...
I had to sit through this for an hour. Basically, this is not actually a play as there is no storyline, it's just one hour of people vomiting a statement.
And I guess the overall statement is that the ruling elite is a bunch of sexist racist incompetant drugged up degenerates solely worried about lining their pockets who are conspiring with the arab leaders (who are particularly degenerate) and world leaders to trash the country... Tell me something I don't know, or if you insist on stating the obvious, at least, tell it to me in a way that is entertaining or that brings fresh insight to the issue, or that is constructive in it's criticism or at the very least in a way that is creative... More importantly, and this is something crucial, this is an overstatement, as bad as the ruling class is at the moment, they are not ALL of them sexist racist incompetant drugged up degenerates, and making them all out to be that says that they are not bad enough; they are, you don't need to exaggerate, exagerating the truth is a lie, and worse, cheapens it: for eg if 10 people die in a shelling, and people report 20 dead, the implication is that ten dead is not enough.
Oh and the acting is horrible: even the person who's sole purpose was to act high, couldn't do that: I've seen high, and that was not it...
That said, the only reason one would want to watch this play, is if they allowed you to pick one cast member at the end, and slap them as hard as you can... With a running start. And this for three reasons, first and most important, it would make you feel much better about having just wasted an hour of your life (actually the experience might be worth the wait), and second it would make them think seriously before getting back on stage the following day and wasting an hour of other peoples's lives, and third, eventually if the play doesn't improve they'll have to stop...

I just stumbled on this review and I totally agree with you. I nicknamed this play the "UNacceptable play" and I still rave about how horrible it was. I love the theatre - but this kind of self-indulgent nonsense should not be allowed on stage - if it was just a workshop for the performers to learn to express themselves, fine - but not for a audience - especially a paying one. I wouldn't want to sit through that again if someone payed ME!
You are absolutely right in your review - and I felt just as angry as you.
Actually Sherif Abdelnour, the director, is talented and I was very disappointed in him for this.
