this is Onur from turkey and i have been watching the sad news everyday from televisions. And i feel so bad when i dont do anything.
I want to shout as much as i can from Turkey and i want to do all the things that i can do.If you do some activity (like mail sending to people etc.. )can you please let me know?
I dont want no more inoocent people' cry in the middle east..
Julie,
I read what you said about signing a petition and decided to do it. Thank you for postiong this. I have been trying to find something to do to help Lebanon instead of just watching it on TV.
Remember also to write to those other politicians who are doing some good.
In my country, Tony Blair is BLOCKING UN actions for a ceasfire. Kofi Anan has contacted our former foreign secretary, Jack Straw, who has made a strong statement calling for a ceasefire and condemning Israel.
Dominic de Villepin has called for a ceasefire, is talking to both sides and advocating an exchange of prisoners.
Time to write to the French Embassy to encourage him.
I am ashamed to be British. We are letting you down. We are letting propaganda and lies from 2 rich countries blind us to this atrocity.
Our news shows how the town of Bint Jbeil has been destroyed. Old and weak people are starving there and it's not safe for rescue services to help them. Terrible.
Thank you Finkployd for your good work. I am only sorry that I live in such a country with cowardly, lying, craven leaders.
thank you,Amira ,for the link.
Mearsheimer and Walt's book is facing one the filthiest smearing campaigns ever instigated by the jewish lobby ,and they see no problem doing this against one of their own(Mearsheimer) exactly like they did to Norman Finkelstein's "Beyond Chutzpah:On the misuse of anti-semitism and the abuse of history" and other books of his like "Image and reality of the israel-palestine conflict".Those people, together with so many other jewish intellectuals(Chomsky is another one) incarnate courage, honesty and jewish humanism.

We have a voice of reason coming from Nebraska! Republican Chuck Hagel is breaking ranks and calling for an end to Israels invasion of Lebanon.
Maggie, here's some more interesting material to read:
"Blair and his ignorant Foreign Secretary have played along with Israel's savagery with blind trust in our own loss of memory. It is perfectly acceptable, it seems, after the Hizbollah staged its reckless and lethal 12 July assault, to destroy the infrastructure of Lebanon and the lives of more than 400 of its innocents. But hold on a moment. When the IRA used to cross the Irish border to kill British soldiers - which it did - did Blair and his cronies blame the Irish Republic's government in Dublin? Did Blair order the RAF to bomb Dublin power stations and factories? Did he send British troops crashing over the border in tanks to fire at will into the hill villages of Louth, Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal? Did Blair then demand an international, Nato-led force to take over a buffer zone - on the Irish, not the Northern Ireland side, of the border?
Of course not. But Israel has special privileges afforded to no other civilised nation. It can do exactly what Blair would never have done - and still receive the British Government's approbation. It can trash the Geneva Conventions - because the Americans have done that in Iraq - and it can commit war crimes and murder UN soldiers like the four unarmed observers who refused to leave their post under fire."

To ALL.............................
1. Please send a thank you note to Mayor of London. Finployd, please see if you can find a link and publish. I am looking for it.
2. I urge, PLEASE, send a note to Paul Zahn on CNN (see link) to tell her she is so pro-Israel and unfair in her coverage. She is in fact purposefly misleading. She had a Lebanese guest on tonight and she was not only very rude, unfair and flat out misleading, she put words in his mouth and attacked him for no reason other than she is pro-Israeli attacks. Please let her know how you feel about her coverage. We must apply pressure on these people that manage most of the public opinion.

Zahi, regardless of what Paula Zahn did on CNN this evening (and i was watching the show) it kind of sadens me to see the response of the Lebanese consulat, who had trouble to express himself properly and left himself open to such attacks. This is not the type of diplomats we need at this time to deal with this crisis. We need cool headed, shrued and weaseled diplomats that can handle such type of interrogation and turn it to their own benefits. Instead, the Lebanese consulat was put on the offensive and was unable to take advantage of the gaps in Paula's questions. It is time for our diplomats to stop whinning all the time on TV and start acting intelligently. THey are not serving our cause and they are portraying the country as helpless and unable to take care of its own and at the mercy of others' decisions, and that is what is being used against us in a lot of the israeli diplomats arguments.
You are 100% correct Anonymous. It is a shame and even an embarresment with all the highly educated Lebanese people we have that the Lebanese diplomats are doing such a terrible job. Another example is Mr. Hammoud, Lebanon's Amb. to the UN. He has been eating for lunch and dinner by his Israeli counterpart - Dan Gilman. This issue has hurt our image and missed huge opportunties. Having said that, I do think Paula was totaly out of line and deserves to hear from us. Again, I agree with you 100%. The poor performance of our diplomats has been very upsetting. Let me put it this way, my American wife said the other night: "If I didn't know any better, I would beleive and support what the Gilman is saying." He is that good. :(
Hey I agree with you guys on this one. That guy on Zahn looked totally stressed out, although I think he said everything he wanted to, it was more the manner in which he did it which was unporfessional. But if any of you watch Lou Dobbs, the representative there ( I forget his name...i think its Mr. Geagas..Im NOT SURE tho) was really good i think.
You are right, that guy on Lou Dobbs did great. He has been on AC360 while he was in Lebanon and he did great then as well. His last name is Gerges. He is a Lebanese-American university professor.
Psycho,
Yes, this is exactly how they are chosen. Certainly not based on merits.
Yes, Kat, I agreed with Mr. Gerges on all his points. I thought he was a very reasonable and knowlegable person. Although Lou tried two put couple of words in his mouth in the form of a question. He was a class act and someone to be proud of.
I didn't say that Paula wasn't sidelining with Israel since the first day (in fact a couple of days ago she hosted an israeli representative and at the end of the discussion she thanked him in hebrew live on tv) very bias and CNN should not tolerated that!!!!!
As for our brave diplomats, this is unfortunately the results of our own interior politics where people are not selected upon merit but because of connections and clan belonging. Even then, they don't bother to provide them with the proper training or at least teach them the most basic diplomatic axiom: ""No place for emotions in public"". If you can not take the pressure and wheather the storn with serenity, better not stear the boat

Zahi It's Stop the War Coalition that's organising the London demo. Ken Livingstone is just commenting. This group has been organising demonstrations in central London for a long time, with big crowds protesting against our role in Iraq.

"I urge the largest possible turn-out on Saturday's demonstration in London called to demand an immediate ceasefire." - Ken Livingstone -finkployd- source AFP
That's soo sad. To put kids in the middle of a war and why do we have t put kids between to neighboors fight.

..................... TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE FOR PEACE & A CEASE FIRE..............
Two men are showing a great deal of courage that we must show them our support. Please send them a thank you note.
1. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) Nebraska: He made a very moving speach today calling for an immediate cease fire. He is the only elected American Official to do so as far as I know.
2. The head of the jewish Tikkun organization is leading a huge effort asking for peace and an immediate cease fire. His organization took a full page ad in the NY Times today asking for an immediate cease fire. Please see the attached link for details.
Here is the link Kat... please pass at it around to as many people as possible. He will probably have a lot of pressure on him from the "Dark Side" tomorrow to back off. We have to stand with him and empower him.
Hey Finkployd :) - Have not seen many updates from you except the occasional note in top left - hope you are doing ok over there, I was very worried to read you are sitting in the hallways. ( I hope those stars in the skies are helping to keep you safe)
You are continuing to make an impact on the news over here, it seems every time I turn on CNN recently they are mentioning you!
My thoughts are with you and the people of Lebanon - I pray for an end to this madness every day.
Maybe Love was more durable than Hate; even if Love changed, some shadow of it, some lasting shape, persisted.Hatred was perhaps like a finger-print upon the smooth glass of the sensitive soul; a mere grease-mark, which disappeared if left alone.
"God (whichever) bless you" - as a non-religious person I am not an expert but as far as I know Muslims, Christians and Jews all believe in the same god; it's just its name that is different in the different languages: Allah, Jehova, Jahve all mean the same - "God". Furthermore, the older parts of the Quran, Bible and Tora are basically identical. The basic values are also the same: "thou shallst not kill". Even the ethnicity is the same: Muslims, Christians and Jews from the region all belong to the same semitic tribe (in terms of the holy books all descent from Ibrahim/Abraham/Avraham). So the term "antisemitic" also applies for those who hate Muslims (calling muslims who demonstrate against the war antisemitic therefore is just dumb).
Oh and P.S.: Did anyone ever notice that the three religions have another thing in common?: The more orthodox the believers are, the funnier they dress up...
O.K. no disrespect implied here to true believers - Salaam, Shalom, Peace to all
