Mobile  City Mall has completely sold out... Lebanon. This 3-story ad is now featured on City Mall. It reads: "Jordan is more Beautiful" More beautiful than what? Lebanon? Isn't that libel? Who approves these things? Our pride and dignity are for sale to the highest bidder... Mohammad B. I agree Jordan is Beautiful. I used to travel to Jordan on business every 2 weeks. I enjoyed every trip there and I even go with family on vacation.
finkployd: yes you are correct. The "A7la" is what is disturbing. I would like to see Lebanese Tourism folks try to pull something like this in Amman. I wonder what kind of reaction we would get. Sam: Of course TSC should be held responsible for this. Every single retail outlet in the country has the right to refuse any advertising copy that it deems inappropriate. I know this from my own work experience. That being said, I wouldn't expect TSC to care, particularly that it is not a Lebanese company. Why should they? They are probably raking in big dollars from this advertising space. This is a very good example of Selling Out 101. I don't think anyone is looking too much into this. The copy is outrageous. rkheeesa. wo mish 7elwe bi 7a22 7adan (be it Jordanians or Lebanese) Raffi & Omar K: if this exact ad and copy is supposed to be benign and informative it certainly does not play a good role in sending the right message. It is vague --> hence misleading. And it is out of place. I know from experience that the average Jordanian is very proud of their country. You think they would settle if anyone went there and bluntly said "Lebanon A7la". Think again my friend. Don't get me wrong. Once again, I have nothing against the owner of the ad itself (Jordan Tourism). But rather a big problem with the media outlet that allowed the ad to be placed on their space.
As i suspected when i first saw your tweets about this, I don't think we should look too much into this. if you look down right, the url is visitjordan.com, the website is that of the Jordanian ministry of tourism.
Besides the ad space, i don't really think TSC can be held responsible for the message. what's more surprising though is that "al ordon ahla" is nonexistent on the website, in any language. gets you wondering if ordon is only ahla than lebnen :) Thanks for the post Sam
It's very poor marketing. If the plan was to have more Lebanese visit Jordan, that signboard will do the exact opposite.
A waste of good advertising.
This could mean lots of things. Jordan is trying to compete on many levels. Just months ago, the pope visited Jordan too, and in case you remember the same spot was used for that ad. And now, they've replaced it with this one.
Sorry...but nothing is more beautiful than Lebanon..i don't care what the stupid ad says lol. ;P
Stop overreacting.. it doesn't say "ahla min libnan" (more beautiful than lebanon).. it's probably more a case of "jordan is more beautiful (than what we previously thought/perceived).."
The question should be why the lebanese are not doing more to promote the country as a destination across Europe.
The ad is not comparing Lebanon to Jordan... its a tourism advertisement telling the Lebanese people: if you are thinking about traveling then "alordon a7la"!
