I cant believe what happend to my lovely country...this summer,lebanon was supposed to be the best place in ME for vacations. THIS summer WAS supposed to be amazing for so many people, and the next, and the one after, and over the next 30 years even. Nobody (including myself) expected anything to happen; but it did. The country (Lebanon) and all it's people (the Lebanese) are going through so much pain (and I hate to say it, but they're going through so much more pain than they would go through in hell) -- mentally and physically -- nobody can stop it, nobody is ABLE to stop it, and nobody is WILLING to stop it (but as said above, the ones who do, CAN'T). If the largest and (apparently) most powerful nation (USA) in the world today is siding with the enemy (yes, that would be Israel), calling Israel's actions to be "just" and saying Israel has the RIGHT (the F'ing RIGHT) to "defend" herself -- then what do we (as a country, and as the most incredible population that ever existed on this earth) have left? In the span of three to four (3-4) days, we have LOST (they're gone, never to be seen again) approximately 100 PEOPLE residing in Lebanon (and no, this isn't some illness going around), oh, and not to mention INNOCENT PEOPLE, and this excludes the military and such. What do we have left? If we keep losing our people -- our blood and flesh, our heart and soul, our families, friends, neighbors, or even that one child you saw playing in the sand, the one person you saw walking down the street, the one old lady you saw struggling to climb a couple steps to reach her house; THEY are all part of your family -- if we keep losing them, what do we have left? As Lebanese (including myself), we know how close our country is; our people, even our animals, for God's sake, we pretty much could get together in one large home and call it the largest family that ever existed. And that home would be Lebanon. Let me say that there is NO war that is a "good" war. The word itself is painful to listen to; and knowing that it's happening right now, in your home country, your home town; pretty much cuts off your breath, stops your heart from beating, sucks dry your throat - for only a second; but it feels like like ages.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but did self-defense ever include the death of hundreds (soon to be thousands) of innocent people? Innocent children who can't tell the difference between a bomb striking and fancy fireworks. Let's face it, we all strive in this world to survive, to protect ourselves and our loved ones; and never in my life have I been taught that protecting one another could happen through war. This firebreathing monster has taken the best of us. However, one thing I DO know is that every human being has the RIGHT to love and cherish; to defend and care for; and to proudly stand up for their country. We all do that, right? I'm sure that at least 99% of us, as humans, would do that for our country. But if all this love is going to come out of hatred against others; taking lives of our surrounding neighbors; and stealing their right to love their country -- then it is no longer love. It is a disease - a disease which has corrupted the world since day one. The very first day man existed, opened its eyes, talked, walked, carried a weapon, or was even able to find one difference in another, war was present. Up till now, it still is. A quick question: One country wins, another loses; one dies, another lives; they both risk everything they have; yet, at the end, what had been created over the past 100, 1 000, 1 000 000 years is destroyed. What have we learned from all this? Absolutely nothing at all. We still see it happening. In one billion years, we WILL STILL see it happening. The world is a sad place, it's pathetic. Nobody's actions regarding war is just, will never be justified (hell, it can't - there is no way on earth that can happen), because to one person it might be classified as being "just", while to another it might not. Israel VS. Lebanon? It's been like that since day one, and look at it now. It never stopped and it never will -- it's an on going disease. When will it end? When will it all end? Never. We're all friken humans for f**k's sake! You think children of 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 years of age understand shit of what's happening right now? Very doubtful - some might, but very vaguely. I'll admit, even I, myself, don't have a crystal clear perspective on this, on anything that's really happening in Lebanon, but I DO know that so many lives that had the brightest future ahead of them are now gone, and will never be able to discover that future. Why take it away? Because you can. Because you're morons and because you're lowlives and have nothing better to do that pick on those little guys surrounding you. Trust me, in the long run, THIS will get you NOWHERE. God Bless Lebanon.

Id like to say that Im supoorting you from here, but in fact I don't know even what could I do for helping you. I wonder how in the hell Israel's government thinks this shit is going to help them. I love peace, i believe on it an I defend it however I can, but I cannot say that my response to this kind of agression would be pacific. I think they are planting hate-trees and they will harvest death. Sorry about my poor english. I do not condone violence at all, in fact I am for peace, but this is not about hezbollah...this is about israel and the bush administrations war on islam. I feel sorry that the lebanese people are the ones suffering for this brutality. I wish I could do something, but I am just an average american sick from all of this. From my understanding and trying to research unbiased history facts, arabs and muslims seem to be peaceful nations under attack. i just hope that the lebanese do not fall into the trap of hating muslims because of all of this. there is enough hate. to make a point here there is a growing number of converts to islam, i am one of them, after researching history and facts i have come to love peace and islam. all of the lebanese are in my prayers and i know that justice comes only from god.....i am praying for all of you. i love you all.

Many of us in America, think Bush is an idiot and want him impeached before he destroys the world, that the Israeli response is disproportionate to what Hizbollah did, and believe an immediate cease fire is the only way to resolve this. I was appalled though unfortunately not surprised, that we were the only veto of the UN resolution. My country is an embarrassment.

First of all I would like to say that this is a great blog and looking at the amazing pictures of Beirut, I really would love to visit this beautiful city and the beautiful country of Lebanon when I have the opportunity! I am really sad about what is happening at the moment. This war is unfair and causing too many casualitities amongst civilians that have nothing to do with the conflict or with Hezbollah. Israel is definitely going too far this time and no one of us understands how our European governments are keeping their silence about this or how they can even verbally support Israel! People on the streets here are angry and they know what exactly is going on! After the last war, it was so nice to see how Lebanon was recovering, people enjoying their lives again... and now, all is going backwards again in the last days! I'm really really sad and I hope that this ends soon! It's all we can say really... I love you all and I hope that Lebanon will be one day a peaceful and economically prosperous place to be and to live! Greetings from Lisbon!

I know Nuremberg Laws were "introduced" in 1935, they really took effect in 1938, were forcefully "enacted." Where did you learn your history, in Israel? Nuremberg is in Germany, check the nearest world map. Regarding the Canadian Citizens, the DEAD ones, does this mean that Canada will attack Israel in retaliation? Ohhh, nevermind the Canadians are just like the Lebanese, they have no army and influence to fight the Israelis.
I have yet to hear with any specificity where the initial incident between Hizbullah and the israeli soldiers took place. The most numerous reports I have heard place it in Sheba Farms. Accordiing to the israeli ambassador a few days ago on Larry King, israel's official position on this area is that it is Syrian land. He then said the Syrians consider this area Lebanese land. Is it just me, or does this statement shock anyone? If this is the case, then the israeli soldiers had crossed borders, not the Hizbullah. If this is the case, then the israelis have again provided the world misinformation and double-talk to advance their own interests, at the cost of innocent life on both sides. Israel apparently has a deadly aversion to any challenge to their "borders", yet they consistently and provacatively violate Lebanese airspace, carry out assasinations on Lebanese soil etc etc etc. The only reason they do this is because they can, because they enjoy bully tactics and are coddled by the west....yet like any bully, when the victim strikes back ,they think they have been innocently provoked into responding with hammer blows.

That being said - where can this end? Israel sees Hizbullah as a terrorist organization, Lebanon and other Arabs do not. According to israel, they say they can defend against terrorists, and since they define Hizbullah as terrorists...and they are in Lebanon...they go into Lebanon at will, while Lebanon declares this an act of war. Who's right, who's wrong? It is obvious there is a double standard when it comes to Israel and the U.S., they are "allowed" to do things that other countries are punished for "because they're the U.S. and Israel", but what has to happen for this double standard to change? Is the story of the Middle East destined to repeat itself until every last Palestinian suicide bombs himself, or Israel attacks every last Arab country in the region?

Because while it may be truth, there is just enough "truth" for me to start laying guilt at Lebanon's door, Israel's door, Canada's door, England's door...it doesn't stop. Present your facts, but blaming the U.S. for everything is getting old. While it's true that when Israel is criticized that the word "anti-semetism" gets thrown around - which is annoying to no end - it is equally as annoying when Arab countries blame all their problems on Israel and the U.S. There are victims and perpatrators, yes, but neither Lebanon OR Israel are blameless 100%. The only blame you can lay at Lebanon's door is that they were unable to build up their army enough in the last 8 months months since they threw out Syria, to enable them to throw out Hizbollah too. Yes, they tried to absorb Hizbollah into the government to avert civil war. It was working, until the guerillas kidnapped the soldiers. So for this current Israeli response, the initial guilt should be laid at Hizbollah's door, not that of innocent Lebanese civilians, nor their government. Their economy just started gaining enough momentum to be able to build up its army, etc. It all takes money. I don't see what Israel has to gain by this demonstration of shock and awe. To answer 50 pound bombs with 500 pound bombs is insane. It's like answering stone throwing Palestinian teenagers with tank shells. It's wrong. Lebanon's president is appealing to the world. So where are the old colonials? Where are the Brits who drew the map in the first place? Did they give up cartography? You can blame a lot of people, and a lot of countries, but it doesn't stop what's happening and it doesn't bring back the dead from either side. Forget the blame game, we need solutions to stop this and move on so the region can live in peace. If you have no ideas, keep your blame to yourself and read, you may learn something, as may we all.

"The Party of God" (Hezbollah) has nothing to do with God. They are ordinary, run-of-the-mill, low life, ignorant terrorists. They must be routed out and purged from Lebanon and the rest of the world along with all such terrorists. Otherwise, what is the hope for the future of Lebanon? The responsibility of dealing with this scourge, Hezbollah, has fallen on Isreal as the rest of the world has not risen to the occassion, including the Arab world.

Hey look. Dont hope that the USA is bombed ( I live in the US) The only reason the U.S. supports Israel is because the whole country is run by Jews. I am here in the States.I am an American that supported Israel and it�s right to exist!!! I cannot believe how blinded I was!!!! This Jewish state is much worth then Hitler!!! The difference is they do not need concentration camp they burn innocent civilians in their own houses, towns and villages!!!
