Lebanon's Blue Gold - Chabrouh Dam Filling Up

Last year, the Chabrouh Dam in Faraya was officially activated.

Last week - it's good to know Maxime Chaya - I received these photos, showing the dam filling up for the first time.

The 63-meter high dam has a storage capacity of some 8 million cubic meters.

Catching Sun in Beirut @ the St George

the lebanese sun is shedding its winter skin as april turns to may
it's saturday afternoon - beirut's experiencing a sort of siesta state, midday twilight

with the riviera closed for the season,
the st george is the only beach open in beirut this summer...

there's something about being able to be on the beach in 5 minutes from anywhere in beirut that makes the st george the ideal locale for a lazy day on the beach

ahhhhhh it feeels goooooood

February 14 Memorial Inaugurated at the St George Square

Three years have passed since the February 14 Explosion at the St George Square.

Today, a memorial built illegally - without permit or rights to the land - on the St George Square stands in the shadow of the destroyed St George Hotel. The Saniora Government, on orders of Solidere, has blocked the reconstruction and compensation funds of the St George Hotel, to force the owners to sell to Solidere. The sale of the St George Hotel to Solidere would effectively place all of Downtown Beirut under the control of Solidere.
